Joey, Senior Year
Asheville, North Carolina
I feel like senior sessions usually fall into one of two categories:
either “I have no idea what I’m doing, please help me”
or
“I’ve been planning this for six months and brought outfit options.”
Joey landed somewhere in the middle… which, in my professional opinion, is the sweet spot.
We spent the afternoon wandering around one of my favorite gritty little spots, full of graffiti, textures, questionable structures… you know, all the things moms love.
And instead of overthinking it, we just kind of… went with it.
No pressure. Only a few forced (but natural) smiles ;) And just hanging out and seeing what felt right.
Which, conveniently, is where the best photos tend to live.
Joey has this really natural, laid-back presence that doesn’t try too hard (a rare and impressive skill, honestly). One minute he’s giving quiet, thoughtful, almost editorial energy… and the next he’s laughing like, ‘okay yeah this is a little weird.’
That’s my favorite version of people!
We moved between bold, colorful backdrops and softer golden light, and somehow both sides fit him perfectly.
Also, just for the record:
urban textures ✔️
golden field ✔️
black & white moment ✔️
effortlessly photogenic without making it weird ✔️
By the end of it, it didn’t even feel like a “session” anymore—just a really good afternoon with a camera tagging along.
And as we were walking back to our cars, I literally said out loud, “I needed this,” followed by a very dramatic sigh.
Embarrassing? A little.
True? 100%
Joey, you made this so easy! I can’t wait to see what you do next.
And if you’re reading this thinking, “I’m awkward in photos…”
I promise, you’re probably just one relaxed session (and a little wandering around with me) away from proving yourself wrong!
